Toni Collette Leads Cast of BBC, Netflix's 'Wanderlust'

The streaming giant has boarded the six-part drama, which is described as "an exploration of the relationships of a multi-generational family" that "asks whether lifelong monogamy is possible — or even desirable."
Toni Collette (Little Miss Sunshine, The Sixth Sense) has signed on to star in the six-part BBC drama Wanderlust, with Netflix coming on board as a co-producer.

The BBC will premiere the show, described as "an exploration of the relationships of a multi-generational family" that "asks whether lifelong monogamy is possible — or even desirable," in the U.K., with the streaming video giant getting it for the rest of the world. No date has been set for the show's launch.

Collette joins Steven Mackintosh (Stan Lee's Lucky Man, The Halcyon), Zawe Ashton (Fresh Meat) and Royce Pierreson (Line of Duty) on the project. The show was first commissioned by BBC One last year.

Wanderlust is the first TV series scripted by playwright Nick Payne (Constellations) and is being directed by Luke Snellin (The A Word). Drama Republic, known for the likes of Doctor Foster and The Honourable Woman, is the production company behind the show.

Collette plays Joy Richards, a therapist "trying to find a way to keep her spark with her husband alive after a cycling accident causes them to reassess their relationship," according to a show description. "As we meet her family, friends, neighbors and clients, remarkable yet relatable stories of love, lust and forbidden desire emerge."

"I am honored and thrilled to work with Nick Payne's wonderful words on Wanderlust," said Collette. "It is an authentic and revolutionary story about relationships, sex, love and all the things we really care about. I could not be more excited."

Piers Wenger, BBC controller drama commissioning, lauded the casting. "Toni's natural warmth, complexity and wit combine to make her the perfect Joy," he said. "I'm delighted that she will be leading the cast in this bold and brilliant new series for BBC One. Nick's scripts strike an utterly distinctive and original tone, and I cannot wait to see them come to life in the very capable hands of director Luke Snellin and the outstanding team at Drama Republic."

Filming for the show, which consists of six hourlong episodes, has begun in Manchester (see the first-look photo with this story).

Wanderlust was ordered for the BBC by Charlotte Moore, director of BBC content, and commissioned as a co-production for Netflix by Elizabeth Bradley and Alex Sapot via a deal brokered by BBC Worldwide and Drama

Trump unveils new strict 70-point immigration enforcement plan Foreign nationals being arrested this week during a targeted enforcement operation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) aimed at immigration fugitives, re-entrants and at-large criminal aliens in Los Angeles.  Determined to finally solve illegal immigration, the White House submitted a 70-point enforcement plan to Congress Sunday proposing the stiffest reforms ever offered by an administration — including a massive rewrite of the law in order to eliminate loopholes illegal immigrants have exploited to gain a foothold in the U.S. The plans, seen by The Washington Times, include President Trump’s calls for a border wall, more deportation agents, a crackdown on sanctuary cities and stricter limits to chain migration — all issues the White House says need to be part of any bill Congress passes to legalize illegal immigrant “Dreamers” currently protected by the Obama-era deportation amnes...

Turkey 'issues arrest warrant for second US consulate worker'

Turkey 'issues arrest warrant for second US consulate worker' The US has suspended all non-immigrant visa services The detention of a member of staff in Istanbul last week has triggered a diplomatic row, prompting both sides to halt most visa services. The first worker was held over alleged links to a cleric blamed for the failed 2016 Turkish coup, but no reason has been given for the latest warrant. The row has driven down Turkey's currency and stocks. Turkey has asked Washington to review its decision to suspend all non-immigrant visa services, taken on Sunday in response to last week's arrest. On Monday Turkey's Foreign Ministry said the suspension was causing "unnecessary tensions". Turkey has also suspended "all visa services". Several Turkish news networks announced on Monday that a warrant had been issued for a second consulate worker. They said the suspect was still being sought but his wife and child were being quest...
