Toni Collette Leads Cast of BBC, Netflix's 'Wanderlust'

The streaming giant has boarded the six-part drama, which is described as "an exploration of the relationships of a multi-generational family" that "asks whether lifelong monogamy is possible — or even desirable."
Toni Collette (Little Miss Sunshine, The Sixth Sense) has signed on to star in the six-part BBC drama Wanderlust, with Netflix coming on board as a co-producer.

The BBC will premiere the show, described as "an exploration of the relationships of a multi-generational family" that "asks whether lifelong monogamy is possible — or even desirable," in the U.K., with the streaming video giant getting it for the rest of the world. No date has been set for the show's launch.

Collette joins Steven Mackintosh (Stan Lee's Lucky Man, The Halcyon), Zawe Ashton (Fresh Meat) and Royce Pierreson (Line of Duty) on the project. The show was first commissioned by BBC One last year.

Wanderlust is the first TV series scripted by playwright Nick Payne (Constellations) and is being directed by Luke Snellin (The A Word). Drama Republic, known for the likes of Doctor Foster and The Honourable Woman, is the production company behind the show.

Collette plays Joy Richards, a therapist "trying to find a way to keep her spark with her husband alive after a cycling accident causes them to reassess their relationship," according to a show description. "As we meet her family, friends, neighbors and clients, remarkable yet relatable stories of love, lust and forbidden desire emerge."

"I am honored and thrilled to work with Nick Payne's wonderful words on Wanderlust," said Collette. "It is an authentic and revolutionary story about relationships, sex, love and all the things we really care about. I could not be more excited."

Piers Wenger, BBC controller drama commissioning, lauded the casting. "Toni's natural warmth, complexity and wit combine to make her the perfect Joy," he said. "I'm delighted that she will be leading the cast in this bold and brilliant new series for BBC One. Nick's scripts strike an utterly distinctive and original tone, and I cannot wait to see them come to life in the very capable hands of director Luke Snellin and the outstanding team at Drama Republic."

Filming for the show, which consists of six hourlong episodes, has begun in Manchester (see the first-look photo with this story).

Wanderlust was ordered for the BBC by Charlotte Moore, director of BBC content, and commissioned as a co-production for Netflix by Elizabeth Bradley and Alex Sapot via a deal brokered by BBC Worldwide and Drama

Tensions between North Korea and the US have reached a boiling point in recent months after Pyongyang conducted a series of intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launches. The president threatened to "totally destroy" North Korea at the United Nations last month, prompting the reggae nation to threaten to test a hydrogen bomb in the Pacific Ocean. But now Donald Trump has further ramped up threats to Kim Jong-Un, after he tweeted on Saturday that "only one thing will work” when dealing with the hermit kingdom. Washington’s Democrat representative Pramila Jayapal expressed her deep concern about President Trump's lat...
